PH value of water and its application
What is the pH value of water? How to apply?
The pH value of water refers to the negative logarithm of H + concentration in water. Namely:
PH = 1 LG [H +] because the H + concentration of water is very small, it is very inconvenient in application, and it is more convenient to use pH value to reflect the pH of aqueous solution. See table 1-24 for application.
Water, pH
When pH = 7, [H +] = [oh I] in water, the aqueous solution is neutral.
When pH > 7, it is alkaline solution; It is an acidic solution when pH < 7.
What factors affect the pH of natural water?
Since most water contains carbonate and bicarbonate, the pH value of natural water is generally between 7 and 8. When the water contains a large amount of free carbon dioxide or is polluted by acidic industrial wastewater, the pH value of the water will decrease; The pH value of water from some mountainous, forest or swamp areas will also be low because it contains a large amount of humic acid.
Acid water has corrosive effect on concrete and metal pipes. When the water contains alkaline substances (such as carbonate or hydroxide), the pH value of the water will increase. Alkaline water may cause the precipitation of some soluble salts and change the original characteristics of water.
The pH value of water is between 6.5 and 9.5, which will not affect people's normal drinking and will not have adverse effects on equipment and pipelines.
How is natural water classified?
Natural water is classified according to its chemical composition. The following methods are commonly used:
(1) By ion content in water
① By salt content
Water with low salt content - salt content below 200mg / L;
Water with medium salt content - the salt content is between 200 ~ 500mg / L;
Water with high salt content - the salt content is between 500 ~ 1000mg / L;
High salt content water - the salt content is more than 1000mg / L.
② By hardness
Extremely soft water - hardness below 1.0mmol/i;
Soft water - the hardness is 1.0 ~ 3.0mmol/i. between;
Medium hard water - hardness between 3.0 ~ 6.0mmol/1;
Hard water - the hardness is between 3.0 ~ 9.0mmol/l.
(2) Divided by anion and cation content
At present, this classification method is mostly used for groundwater. It is divided according to the amount of ionic material in groundwater. Only six ions reach this order of magnitude, namely: Na +, Mg2 +, Ca2 +, CL 1, so 1 and hcof. Since one cation and one anion cannot exist alone in water, only three cations and three anions can be combined into the types shown in table 1-25.
Water, pH
When naming, you can give the name according to which ion is more. For example, according to the anion content, it can be called chloride water, sulfuric acid brine, bicarbonate brine, sulfate bicarbonate brine, etc. For another example, it can be called sodium water, magnesium water, sodium magnesium water, sodium calcium water, etc.
(3) It is classified according to the comparison between main components and ions
This classification method is based on the most abundant anions, which are divided into bicarbonate and carbonated water, sulfuric acid water and chlorinated water. In each category, the main cations are divided into three groups: calcium group, magnesium group and sodium group, and then the water in each group is divided into four different types according to the relative content relationship between cations and anions. In this way, 27 kinds of water can be obtained.
